I broke up with him. I’ve had enough of the manipulation and the tears. There’s something inside of me that says “just one more chance, give him one more chance.” It’s the voice that has echoed so many chances before. And I just cannot. It may be that it’s just the way he shows love. But I cannot handle that kind of love. So I’m through.
It’s that time of year again. And this year, walking through the aisles and aisles of huge stuffed bears, packaged candy and over-priced flowers, I have realized just how overdone Valentine’s Day is. Yes, it’s fun, yes, giving and receiving special gifts for no reason other than someone loves you is great.
Congratulations to the NY Giants!!!!! (in your face, Mr. Brady).
I don’t usually watch TV on the TV- I’m one of those “download-it-to-your-computer-so-you-can-watch-it-til-the-end-of-your-days” kinda people. Then NBC had their little run-in with Apple Inc. and The Office went MIA on iTunes. You could still watch it online, but there’s commercials. Lots of them. I’m willing to put up with 30 second spots placed at respectable intervals throughout the episode — but the last time I watched Jim and Pam on NBC’s Web site, there were five commercial breaks. In a 24 minute episode. That’s not practical, one almost every five minutes. Of course, my problems with that quickly went away with the writer’s strike that’s going on. No more Office. So I started watching FOX shows online instead — House and Bones. It seemed like Fox was having a better time with the strike, having more episodes up and they had three commercial breaks in an hour-long episode. That was much easier to swallow. But now, as I take a look at this here article by Entertainment Weekly, it looks like I’ll not be a Fox fan for much longer either. *sigh* Entertainment is such a part of the American life, our shallow, little lives really can feel deprived when these things are suddenly taken away. I have friends who are addicted- literally addicted - to Grey’s Anatomy (ABC). Now suddenly they’re going through their mid-life crises 20 years early. I’m going a little crazy inside because I want to know what happens to Dr. House’s team, now that he’s chosen it, and if Jim and Pam are really going to stay together. Part of me wants to become a writer so I can have my shows back (Not that I could ever be as creative as the writers who are on strike as we speak). Part of me wants to cross that picket line. But the rest of me (the most of me) is totally behind the writers who are on strike. And so I will blame the big media corporations (another great American pastime!) who won’t treat the writers who make those companies successful on the Thursday 8pm slot. Now, I’m off to find some reruns of Charmed…. because that was quality programming, right? Right? *sigh* My tribute to Bones is this song that they played at the end of the last episode, The Boneless Bride in the River. By Fisher>>> You (In all honesty, I suppose it’s not a tribute- it’s more me trying to figure out how this whole uploading songs to your blog thing works).
For the new year, friends and I watched this beauty of a film, Once. Favorite song from this movie, When Your Mind’s Made Up. I’d upload it, but iTunes hasn’t allowed it to be changed over from a protected file yet.
This film is just…. well, I never thought I’d say anything good about a movie where profanity is used every minute. Almost. However, I am informed that the f-word is regularly used in Irelend, therefore it’s not really swearing. :|In any case, it’s a beautiful film, about a struggling street musician who meets a Czech immigrant who likes his music and wants her vacuum fixed. Odd, yes. Wonderful, yes. And in all honesty, since they’re not American, any cuss words used actually sound (slightly) refined. I’ve always thought that accents (British, Australian, Irish, Scottish, etc…) had that effect on profanity. Americans have this harsh accent and can’t pull it off, but give it an English twist and four-letter words sound positively proper in comparison.
It’s that time again…. and I’m not making any New Year’s resolutions. I guess that’s my resolution — to not make any? Oh the irony. Part of me has just had it with the setting of standards I’m not all that wild about keeping anyway. The standards so often seem unattainable as well.If I did make any resolutions this year, however, they would include (and not be limited to) eating more chocolate, reading more, finishing writing my novel, and just plain being satisfied with my life. Those seem more realistic. Attainable even. Enjoyable. Anyone have any New Years resolutions that you’d like to share?
